The Pioneer Endicott Guide to Fall Activities

Autumn is upon us! If you’re looking for things to do around the Twin Cities area this fall, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite seasonal activities:

The Apple Festival at the Gibbs Museum is always a blast. Apples, apples, and more apples! There are apple treats, crafts, games – something for everyone. Enjoy horse-drawn hayrides, make treats like apple fritters, play games, and more! The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, September 21. How do you like them apples?

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival is winding down, so catch it before it ends September 29. Located in Shakopee, the festival is a celebration of nature, art, and life. It’s the largest Renaissance Fest in the nation, with an annual attendance of 300,000. Jousting, anyone?

Who doesn’t love the Saint Paul Art Crawl? We sure do! From October 4 to 6, experience the many talented artists of St. Paul at several galleries and studios around the city. Hundreds of artists and more than 30 locations makes for quite the art crawl this fall. And it just so happens that the kickoff party is at the Minnesota Museum of American Art, located in the Pioneer Endicott building!

The Twin Cities are being taken over by Zombies! On Saturday, October 12, several bars throughout the Twin Cities will partake in the Zombie Pub Crawl. Create your best zombie costume and don’t forget the makeup. The Zombie Pub Crawl features music, activities, contests, and of course – pubs!

The historic James J. Hill House in St. Paul is hosting Victorian Ghost Stories on October 19, 20, 26, and 27. With stories from writers like Bram Stoker and Edgar Allen Poe, set in a dimly lit parlor in the Hill House, these events are sure to get spooky. The stories will be followed by a tour of the Hill House and hot cider will be served.

The Day of the Dead at the Minnesota History Center is a colorful and symbolic fiesta that brings the community together to remember loved ones who have passed away. For Mexican-Americans, Dia de Los Muertos is a way to connect with their rich cultural heritage. Highlights include music, games, food, puppetry, storytelling, crafts, art, and dancing. Dia de Los Muertos takes place this year on Saturday, October 26.

The Great Pumpkin Festival takes place Sunday, October 27 at the Landmark Center in St. Paul. It’s a day of fun for all ages and is a huge hit each year. Expect art, crafts, storytelling, music, treats, and all things pumpkin!

On select nights in October, the Mounds Theater opens its doors for Real Haunted Tours. You and a group will be led by two experienced paranormal investigators, who will walk you through the dark theater. You’ll learn the history of the building and stories of resident spirits. Don’t forget to bring a camera, voice recorder, or video camera and try to capture the evidence in your very own ghost hunt!

The Minnesota Wild are back! Need we say more? Be sure to get to a game this season – the team is looking good.

Located in White Bear Lake, Pine Tree Apple Orchard offers weekend entertainment throughout the fall. Enjoy pony rides, wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, apple picking, homemade treats, gifts and more! The Pine Tree Orchard is devoted to growing and providing the best quality of fruit in a sustainable environment. It’s extremely family friendly too!

There are so many local Pumpkin Patches in the Twin Cities region. Check out this great website and choose one!

Located in Brooklyn Park, The Twin Cities Harvest Festival and Maze is open weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sept 21 to October 27. Things to do include a huge corn maze, a corn pit, straw bale maze, kids’ play area, petting zoo, hayrides, live music, and more! For a little extra, you can wall climb, sling pumpkins, try out great foods from local vendors, buy pumpkins, and ride in a helicopter. There’s so much to do at the Harvest Festival every weekend, so don’t miss out!

Valley Scare occurs on weekends after sunset starting September 21. If you light frightful fun, then Valley Scare is the place for you. There are rides, scare zones, shows, and more. Beware of the sunset – it’s when The Haunt begins

Fall means harvest. Wine harvests are lovely

Cannon River Winery is hosting its Oktoberfest on October 12 and 13 at the beautiful winery in Cannon Falls. There will be tastings, entertainment, and treats too!

Be sure to check out these festivals at wineries in the Twin Cities, too!
