The Best Holiday Events This Weekend: Lowertown

The holiday season has begun, and that means there's no slowing down until after January 1st! To make it a bit less hectic, why not get your holiday shopping done in one weekend (this one) in Lowertown? This is THE weekend to do it all folks. From bake sales and art bazaars to concerts and ice fishing expos, Lowertown is bustling with holiday cheer and activities December 5th - 7th. Don't miss out!

Lowertown First Fridays - Holiday Bazaar
What: This annual bazaar showcases work from local artists, as they open up their studios and invite you into their work spaces and show rooms. Galleries will be open with even more artist work from the area. You will also be able to view live musical performances and art demonstrations, as well as indulge in delicious food and beverages. This is the perfect place to find one-of-a-kind gifts! Click on the link above for more info.

When: This event is 2 days instead of the usual 1.
Friday, December 5th: 6pm-9pm. Saturday December 6th:  12pm - 5pm
Cost: FREE to attend! But we guarantee you'll want to purchase at least one piece of original work :)

36th Annual Old Fashioned Holiday Bazaar 
What: Over 75 booths of beautiful and unique handcrafted gift items by artists in the area. From jewelry and clothing to handmade lotions and soaps, you can find a gift for everyone at this event! You won't want to miss one of Landmark Center's longest running and most beloved traditions :)
Where: Landmark Center in St. Paul
When: Thursday, December 4th: 10am - 8pm.      Friday, December 5th: 10am - 8pm.      Saturday, December 6th: 10am - 5pm.
Cost: $4 per person. Ages 12 and under are free. This money helps to support Landmark Center's free and low cost programs.


North Pole Express
What: A steam train experience like no other! This one-mile train ride, beginning at the Union Depot, brings you to the North Pole to meet and pick up Santa. During the ride back to the Union Depot, Santa will hand out treats and goodies to the children.  At the end of the train ride, children receive a treat and hot cocoa, and will be invited to participate in other fun activities.
Where: The Union Depot in St. Paul
When: December 5th - 7th, and December 11th - 14th. Times Vary, so check the schedule.
Cost: $17.50 for children. $19.50 for adults. Kids under 2 are free. Purchase tickets here.


Christmas at the Fitzgerald
What: This one-night concert event at the Fitzgerald Theatre features Season 3 finalist of NBC's The Voice, Nicholas David. All net proceeds from this event benefit local Twin Cities charities. Tickets are almost sold out, so reserve yours ASAP!
Where: The Fitzgerald Theatre
When: Saturday, December 6th. 7pm
Cost: $42.50, $35, or $30. A $2.50 facility fee will be added to each ticket.

Holiday Bake Sale & Tree Lighting
What: More than 20 of the top bakeries in the Twin Cities gather at the Union Depot for one huge Christmas Bake Sale. Activities, other than eating the baked goods that you meant to save for guests, include cooking demonstrations, musical performances, and fun giveaways.
Immediately following the bake sale will be the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on the North Plaza of the Union Depot, where there will be refreshments, musical entertainment, fireworks, and an opportunity to take a holiday photo. Tree lighting will take place at 5pm.
Where: The Union Depot in St. Paul
When: Saturday, December 6th: 10am - 4pm (bake sale). 4pm - 5:30pm (tree lighting).
Cost: $5 for Adults. Children 12 and under are free. Purchase tickets here. Part of the proceeds will benefit Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry Campaign

St. Paul Ice Fishing & Winter Sports Show
What: This is the LARGEST Ice Fishing Show in the country! Shop more than 190 exhibits with products and services dedicated to the die-hard ice fishing and winter sports enthusiast.
When: Friday, December 5th: 1pm - 9pm.  Saturday, December 6th: 8am - 7pm.  Sunday, December 7th: 10am - 5pm.
Where: Saint Paul RiverCentre
Cost: Adults $9. Children 6-12 $5. Children 5 & under free. Receive $3 off adult admission if you show your Wild Ticket or Home Ice Advantage Card.
