Pioneer Art Gallery To Open Art Crawl Weekend

Pioneer Endicott live/work resident Joy Benn opens the Pioneer Art Gallery the weekend of the Saint Paul Art Crawl – and she could not be happier. An art enthusiast, Benn moved to Pioneer Endicott from North Carolina because she appreciated both its aesthetics and central location.

“I was attracted to St. Paul for its arts community, and I was attracted to this building in particular because I love the idea of renovating old things,” she said. “I’m a big repurposer and upcycler, and I just love living in this building.”

As a business owner, Benn found that St. Paul was an ideal setting – the opportunities to plug into things going on in the art world, the opportunity to network, and the many events that occur throughout the year.

“It’s incredible how vibrant the art community is in the Twin Cities,” she noted. “I’m used to a smaller community, so being here makes me think, ‘Wow, there’s something to do here everyday!’”

Benn is looking forward to Pioneer Endicott’s completion because it will be beneficial in both finding art and filling the gallery with people who appreciate it. She considers PE a work of art itself, noting the architectural details that bring life to the building.
Works by St. Paul artist Diane Simon will be featured in the Pioneer Art Gallery.

Lowertown St. Paul, for Benn, is the perfect place to be. She loves that the neighborhood is walkable, the many local businesses, and the fact that there’s never a dull moment. She attends concerts at Music in Mears, plays cribbage Monday nights at Blackdog Coffee & Wine Bar, enthusiastically speaks of the St. Paul Farmers Market, and walks her dog through the many parks that the city boasts.

And the Pioneer Endicott community makes her feel at home. She’s met plenty of neighbors in passing, lives the eclectic mix of tenants, and finds the building’s management to be very helpful and responsive.

The Pioneer Art Gallery opens for business October 4, coinciding with the Art Crawl. Benn will feature works by St. Paul artist Diane Simon, whose art is known for its bold colors and contemporary features. A talented jewelry maker, Benn will also feature some original work.

Be sure to visit the Pioneer Art Gallery, located on the Skyway level of Pioneer Endicott in Unit 206. Also, the Saint Paul Art Crawl opening reception will take place in the Minnesota Museum of American Art, located on the first floor of the Pioneer Building.
